Happiness is a Cheeseburger

It's been a rough week. We received some not so good news about my father. He has prostate cancer. He is very lucky that it was caught early and has already scheduled several appointments with specialists to discuss his treatment options. I know that everything will be alright. I'm going to be flying home with baby in a few weeks for a quick visit.

Asher has had strep throat which has left Aaron and I juggling schedules to stay home with him. Life is just a huge balancing act and I'm left questioning my decision to work on a regular basis. However, I don't really want to get into that with this post. I want to talk about a few things that have happened this week that let me know that I am not alone and that God is aware of me.

I have a co-worker who is prone to saying really inappropriate things to me. Really inappropriate. I take her comments in stride because I can tell she's just trying to be friendly. Well about an hour after I got off the phone with my mom saying my dad has cancer this woman plops a cheeseburger on my desk. I'm not really sure why she thought of getting me food, but I have been dying for a cheeseburger for weeks! It was delicious, a slice of heaven.

On Wednesday, I was feeling really overwhelmed with life when another woman from work stopped me in the halls and invited me to join her book club. You know how there are people you can just tell you are going to click with and if only you could spend more time with them you'd be friends? That's my situation with her. Needless to say I went to the meeting that night and had the most enjoyable time with the group. It was nice to spend an evening with great conversation and peach cobbler.

Yesterday Aaron and I got invited to go out with another couple! We usually do the inviting so this was a nice switch-a-roo. So I'll be going to church tomorrow on a mission to find a baby-sitter for the Ashman.

So, that's my good news for the week. What about you?

Good for you. I'd really appreciate a good book club. I should work on that.

Glad you are getting to know people out there. Wish I could say the same for me in my ward. It is slow.

way to focus on the positive! If your dad needs a good doctor I'm sure my dad would love to share his. Since they caught my dad's early they gave him another 20 years and he opted to have it removed and hasn't had any side effects. I'm sure he'd be more then happy to talk to your dad. Go with your gut on what to do with little asher, if your gut says stay home say to hell with it and do it if it says work you'll make it through! My good news is I haven't been sick, imagine that would ya? a pregnancy where I'm not nauseated 24/7?? crazy I know, but miracles do happen.

Trine - Glad to hear that things are going well in Arizona! It is hard to move and it sounds like you have good people around you! I am so sorry to hear about your dad. I hope that everything goes well for him with treatments! Hang in there!!!

Thanks for sharing some of the things that are happening in your life right now Trine. Mmmmm...thinking about cheeseburgers now...

I haven't seen your dad is many years but my memories of him are all good. It's hard to be far away when we want to support the people we love. But I know you'll find a way.

Good luck finding the babysitter. I think the sooner you get someone established, the better. I'm still working on it myself. And good for you for going out to book club! It can really help to refresh!

Love to you!

Just when we think all is lost, "things" happen. It is amazing how that happens. I do miss you and wish I could have been to that book club. I need that too! Best wishes...

I'm sorry about your dad. Way to look for the positive, though! I love that, sometimes, things like a cheeseburger can make such a difference in a day and our outlook on it! Keep up that positive outlook!

Good food always brightens my day too--like Dunkin' Donuts (which we had 3 times in Florida). :) Sorry to hear about your dad. Thinking about you...

I am so sorry to hear about your dad! I know that really doesn't make you feel any better, but I know that Heavenly Father will help your family through this trial! I hope everything works out with your new job and that Asher loves his new sitter! I just wish I could give ya a big hug! Life has changed a lot for the both of us, but I will never forget all the fun I had with you while serving together! You will always be regarded as one of my "best friends!" I will keep your dad in my thoughts and prayers!
